Joseph Georg Egger

1824 - 1913

Dr. Joseph Georg Egger was born on December 24, 1824 in Kelheim and died on March 22, 1913 in Munich.  He was a physician as well as a geologist specializing in micropaleontology.  He published on foraminiferans during the years 1857-1909 and is the author of Foraminiferen aus Meeresgrundproben: Gelothet von 1874 bis 1876 von s.m. Sch. Gazelle (Published in 1893 by Verlag der K. Akademie; in Commission bei G. Franz). The species Eggerella Cushman was named for him.
 
From 1871 to 1881 Egger was of chairmen of the scientific association and honorary chairmen of the Passau of physician association. He was named an honorary citizen of the city of Passau in 1881.
