  • Microfossils for use in environmental geology of coastal areas, focusing on coastal evolution, sea level and aquaculture
  • Recent and Pleistocene Foraminifera and Ostracoda, and their use as environmental indicators and coastal zone management tools
  • Thecamoebians, their present distribution and usefulness in paleo-ecology
  • Sea-level changes and environmental changes related to glacial periods
  • Quaternary paleoceanography, stable isotopes in the Quaternary
  • Global climate change, most recently using deep sea corals as a climate archive
